Bereavement Policy

RWJBarnabas Health offers paid bereavement leave to support employees through the difficult time following the loss of a loved one. We are here to support you through this process and want to ensure you take the time away to care for yourself and your family.

The available paid bereavement time is as follows:

  • Up to four (4) working days of an immediate family member (e.g., mother, father, sibling) or a stillbirth or miscarriage
  • Up to two (2) working days for other family members (e.g., grandparent, grandchild, in-laws, niece/nephew, cousin, aunt/uncle)

Employees who are covered by a collective bargaining agreement should check with their local human resources teams or union leadership to understand how this benefit may apply.
